CNN Live Stream: How to Watch CNN Online without Cable

CNN live stream

Got rid of cable and wondering how to watch CNN online? You aren’t alone, and thankfully, there are now ways to get a CNN live stream legally without cable.

For people who want to stay current on world events, a well-rounded daily news diet likely contains CNN live TV.  The 24-hour news network has been a leader in world news for decades, often providing the best coverage of the stories that matter most. In recent years, CNN has grown to become more than just a news network, however. With popular programs like Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Mike Rowe: Somebody’s Gotta Do It, CNN has evolved into a network that has something for everyone. You can even watch the Presidential debates and the VP debate on CNN.

Of course, CNN is a pay TV channel, and watching the worldwide news leader has always required an expensive cable or satellite contract…until now. Thanks to new streaming services, there are finally some legal ways to watch a CNN live stream without cable TV. No sketchy streams. No pop up ads.

Check out the complete guide below for all the info you need on how to watch CNN online, including how to enjoy CNN on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and a ton of other popular devices.

Sling TV is the First to Offer a Legal CNN Live Stream

Sling TV is a streaming service similar to Netflix, Hulu, and others. It lets you use your internet connection to watch TV programs on your computer, mobile device, or TV (via a streaming device like the Roku 3, Apple TV, etc). So, if you’re looking to watch CNN on Roku and other top streaming players, Sling TV is a great choice.

Sling also has a deal with T-Mobile customers that gives them 30% off the price of the basic Orange package, normally $20 a month with no contract. For just $14 per month for up to 12 months, T-Mobile customers can binge on Sling TV to their hearts content and even cancel early if they’d like without any penalty. This deal is made even sweeter with T-Mobile’s Binge On feature! To see if you qualify and to get started, sign into your T-Mobile account.

There is one major difference between Sling TV and other popular streaming services, however — Sling offers live streams of popular cable channels, not just on-demand content. Most notably, it was the first service to offer a legal CNN live stream. And it’s the cheapest of all the options for how to watch CNN online.

When you subscribe to the basic Sling TV package, you will gain access to all of CNN’s great programming. You get to watch CNN live TV just like you would with cable, only at a fraction of the price. That means you can watch CNN online and enjoy all of their best shows, like The Lead with Jake Tapper, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper 360, and Race to the White House.

With Sling TV, you watch CNN online from your TV, phone, tablet or computer for $20 per month. Here’s the best part — there’s no contract so you can cancel at any time. Sling TV even offers a 7-day trial so you can test out their streaming service to see if it’s a good fit for you.

What Other Channels Can You Get with Sling TV?

Sling TV offers much more than just a a way to live stream CNN. As an alternative for traditional pay TV, Sling TV offers content for everyone in the family. Their basic “Sling Orange” package comes with over 25 channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, TNT, ABC Family, Food Network, TBS, the History Channel, HGTV, IFC, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, and more. You can read more about Sling TV’s complete offerings here.

Remember, this is live streaming, so you’re getting the exact same channels as you would with cable TV, but you’re paying a fraction of the price and you aren’t tied into a contract.

Do Any Other Services Offer CNN Streaming?

Currently, the only other streaming service that lets you watch CNN online is PlayStation Vue, a new offering that Sony has only recently rolled out nationwide. PlayStation Vue is similar to Sling TV in that it offers live streams of popular pay TV channels without a cable contract.

However, Vue does have a few drawbacks. Currently, Vue is only available on a small handful of devices — PlayStation consoles, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and iPhone/iPad (note: there are severe mobile restrictions that block most streaming outside your home network). But another issue for many is the price. The service starts at $29.99-$39.99 a month depending on your market, up to twice as much as Sling TV’s lowest price. We wish there was the option for a smaller bundle of channels at a lower price.

Which Devices Can You Watch CNN Live Streaming On?

Sling TV devices

With Sling TV, you can watch the CNN live stream on all of the following devices:

For those who don’t have a streaming player to connect to their TV, Sling TV is running a deal right now where you can get a Roku 3 at 50% off the regular price or a Roku 2 for free when you sign up for 3 months of service. Both of these are great streaming players and essentially pay for themselves with this great limited-time deal. These offers do change from time to time, but there is always some sort of discounted and/or free device available. Click here to learn more about these offers.

If you’d rather watch CNN on Apple TV, Sling TV has got you covered. Sign up for 3 months, and score an exclusive discount on a new Apple TV device!

Lastly, you can watch CNN live TV on your PS3 or PS4 if you have PlayStation Vue.

That’s a lot of different devices you can watch CNN live streaming on!

Can You Watch CNN Online Free?

If you’re looking for free CNN streaming, there aren’t many legal options. CNN posts some videos on its website, but these are typically only one or two-minute clips and you certainly won’t get a CNN live stream. Of course, there are some other sites out there that stream CNN online for free, but they’re illegal. They also aren’t very safe. Most of these sites can infect your computer with malware.

If you’re looking for a quick news fix and want to watch CNN live for free, your best option is to sign up for a free 7-day trial of Sling TV. It only takes a few minutes to sign up and start watching, and this will allow you to watch CNN online free for one full week. If you enjoy it, you can continue your service on a month-to-month basis for as long as you wish.

My problem with it is you can only view on one device at a time. Fatal flaw for me.
