Why Chromecast?

While we often talk about Roku 3 on this site when discussing streaming players, Chromecast has a large, die-hard following of its own. Why? It’s a lightweight device that lets you cast the screen of your mobile device or laptop. Chromecast supports thousands of apps and it’s extremely simple to use.

Up until this point, Chromecast has been lacking one major app — Sling TV. But now, not only have can you access Sling TV with Chromecast, but they’ve joined together to offer some solid deals.

Let’s look at the math on the free Chromecast deal. Chromecast typically runs $35. Sling TV costs $20 per month. So if you prepay for 3 months of service, that’ll be $60. Ordinarily if you subscribed to Sling TV and purchased a Chromecast, you’d spend $95 total. So this deal offers a savings of $35.

As for the free trial, ordinarily Sling TV offers a 7-day trial. But right now existing Chromecast users can get 2 entire months free. That’s a $40 value.

What is Sling TV?

Unfamiliar with Sling TV? Sling TV is a service unlike any other. Created by Dish Network, Sling TV is a streaming service that allows you to stream a small bundle of cable channels without the cable contract. Channels like ESPN, TNT, AMC, HGTV…you can access them all whenever you want with no contract. Cancel at any time. It’s always month to month.

Sling TV also offers various add-on packages. For example, if you’re big into college football, you should probably get the sports add-on package for an additional $5 per month so you could watch ESPNU, SEC Network, and other stations. Or if you want HBO you could pay $15 per month to add on a live stream of the channel, as well as unlimited access to their entire on-demand library.
