National Geographic Live Stream: How to Watch Nat Geo Online without Cable

National Geographic Channel live stream

National Geographic has been a household name since the inception of the magazine in 1888. Originally evoking thoughts of exotic safaris, it was quickly apparent that the journal aimed to provide the best information about our world, the cultures, the animals, and the threads that hold us all together. It was no surprise, then, that the advent of cable television would also usher in a new era for the National Geographic society. The National Geographic Channel didn’t join the entertainment scene until 1997. Nowadays, it’s possible to watch Nat Geo online – and we’ll show you how!

Like with many cable networks, National Geographic Channel has become a platform for a variety of reality television programs including:

  • Brain Games
  • Science of Stupid
  • Life Below Zero

The network is also the current home of National Geographic Explorer, a series that has been on the air since 1985. If you’re a fan of the National Geographic Channel’s programming, you may be wary of ditching cable. But you don’t have to worry. Here are several ways you can still watch the National Geographic Channel live stream at home without needing cable.

One of our favorite cable replacement options is Sling TV. There is so much to like from the extensive list of pay TV channel access to the sheer number of devices that will work with the system. It really can’t be beat. Sling TV (review) offers fans an option to watch Nat Geo online live for an affordable price. Not only do you get the National Geographic live stream, but you also get access to a rotating selection of on-demand episodes, which are subject to provider availability.

And while you’re there, you can watch some of your other favorite shows live, including Vikings on History and Better Call Saul on AMC. All of this is available for just $25 per month with no contract, so you can cancel at any time. Nat Geo is included in the “Sling Orange” package, which offers 40+ channels for $25 a month.

Watch National Geographic Streaming on PlayStation Vue

Playstation Vue

A similar streaming service, PlayStation Vue, also offers fans an opportunity to watch the National Geographic live stream. The network is available in all of their packages so you can watch your favorite programming live as it airs. PlayStation Vue transforms your gaming console or streaming device into a complete entertainment system. You can replace cable for packages starting at $29.99 per month. PlayStation Vue not only gives you the ability to watch Nat Geo online but a variety of other networks as well.

Fans of network television programming, like FOX’s Wayward Pines, will also be able to watch their favorite shows. After originally launching in only seven cities, Vue expanded to offer live streaming  nationwide. However, only these original cities receive live stream content from local networks like FOX, NBC, ABC, and CBS. For the rest of the country, FOX, NBC, and ABC are available on-demand the next day.

Packages for PlayStation Vue start as low as $29.99. With Vue, you can watch National Geographic on Roku, PS3 and PS4 consoles, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Android and iPad. However, it is important to note that your subscription is tied to your home network. You’re not able to watch content away from home. Even the iOS app has mobile restrictions. Check out our full Vue review to learn more about the service to see if it’s right for you to watch the National Geographic live stream.

…And many more. On top of this, you can watch many of your other favorites on-demand from a variety of pay TV networks and broadcast channels including current hit shows from ABC, NBC, and FOX. There is also a huge library of past shows and movies.

Hulu (review here) can be streamed on pretty much any device from your iPhone to a Roku. It starts at only $7.99 a month for the version with limited interruptions. Or, you can spring for the commercial free option at only $11.99 per month. There’s even a 7-day trial so you can test the service from Hulu for yourself and watch National Geographic online free for a week.

More Ways to Watch the National Geographic Live Stream

While we’re writing this, there aren’t any other services that offer National Geographic streaming live. But we mention it because services are often updating their channel listings and this could be available in the future.

There are several services slated to launch in the near future. These include a live TV streaming option from Hulu, DirecTV Now, and the new service VIDGO. They could also offer National Geographic live streaming when they premiere.

Watch National Geographic Online with Instant Video

There are also a number of ways you can purchase individual episodes or seasons and watch Nat Geo online at your own pace. You can try Amazon, Vudu, or iTunes to buy your favorites and watch any time since you will own the content.

Overall, this will be more expensive and a worse value than any of the streaming services, but there may be cases where it will be your best option. If you do buy and watch National Geographic online this way, the season pass will be the more affordable option.

These are all the ways so far that you can watch the National Geographic live stream without an expensive cable bill. If you want to search for specific shows, check out this page and learn more.
