Select TV Review: Cost, Devices, Deals, and More

If you ask anyone what the scariest part of cord cutting is, most will tell you it’s the idea of losing the channels they love. No one minds giving up that cable bill. It’s the idea that they won’t be able to flip through the channels and find their favorite shows that bothers people. I know it was my primary concern when cutting the cord!

There are more and more streaming services available each day, but if you want the look and feel of cable, many will leave you feeling unsatisfied. If you’re a channel surfer, you want the look of cable without having to pay for it. If that’s how you feel, keep reading this SelectTV review, because this might be the service you’ve been waiting for.

You’re probably reading this because you haven’t heard of SelectTV. So, what is SelectTV? The people responsible for the content aggregator FreeCast are also behind SelectTV. This SelectTV review will go over special features, channel options, and cost, so you know whether or not you want to try SelectTV.

What is SelectTV?

SelectTV, like FreeCast, is a content aggregator. Instead of licensing special networks and creating new shows, like Netflix, SelectTV scours the Internet and puts everything in one place so you don’t have to search for it. Much of the content on SelectTV is free, though you can also search for premium content, as well. For example, it can find shows on Hulu and Netflix, where you’d need a subscription to watch. If possible, content is embedded into SelectTV so you can watch right there. However, in some cases content cannot be embedded so you’ll have to watch it on the website of origin.

The greatest thing about SelectTV is really that is cuts the time it takes to find and watch things. Thanks to a clean and organized website/app, SelectTV searches and finds you what you want in no time. You can use content filters to help you find just what you want. There are multiple search options based on user ratings, network, year, and genre. You can also look for popular shows or things that have been recently added. The layout is very reminiscent of cable, with that channel surfing look that will appeal to many.

SelectTV finds you tons of content and this is why it’s a great service. It makes watching TV convenient again. SelectTV brings everything together in one spot. This includes, according to their website, over 5,000 live channels, 50,000 radio stations, 200,000 movies, and 300,000 TV shows. You also have access to sporting events and other live entertainment. These totals do not include the available addition of pay-per-view shows, viral videos, VOD movies and shows, or games, which are also just a click away.

The search options are endless. You start with Channels, Events, Games, Music, and On-Demand. Each option presents further options that allow you to fine tune your search. While On-Demand will offer search options for Primetime shows and movies, Channels, will give you options for news and other channel genres. If you’re looking for something not available through SelectTV, if it’s online, SelectTV will tell you where you can find it.

The real downside to SelectTV comes in the form of available streaming options. Right now, they are working on mobile apps, but they aren’t ready. So, you can watch through your TV if you have a Chromecast or you can watch through your computer. Those are your only options presently.

I use this service and am pretty happy with it so far. I’ve been a cord-cutter for a while and am a pretty tech savvy person, so it’s tempting to say that I could find any of the stuff on SelectTV myself without it, but if I’m being honest, I know I wouldn’t. For example, I had no idea that Xfinity’s website had free episodes of some shows, even for non-subscribers. For finding shows and movies, Select beats google by a mile. If you’re a cord-cutter, it can save you a good few minutes every day, and the cost is pocket change.
