Every year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee is an exciting couple of days for the young contestants, their families, and viewers from across the country. The support of the event comes through when you realize it is nationally broadcast on ESPN over its two days. The official preliminary round of the Spelling Bee starts early morning on Wednesday, May 25th. The Final rounds take place the next day with the ultimate winner being decided later into the night. If you’d like to catch the Spelling Bee live stream, keep reading!
If you are a casual or avid fan of watching every year, you’ll be glad to hear there are multiple ways to stream the Spelling Bee online or on your TV. Read on to learn more about the options out there and decide which will be the best for you!
Sling TV is the Best Option for a Spelling Bee Live Stream
Dish Network’s subscription streaming service, Sling TV, is the number one option for cable cutters to watch the Spelling Bee online. No matter which round it is you can watch live with Sling TV and you can watch the event either online or on your TV. Sling TV is compatible with just about every mobile device or tablet and can be streamed on your computer. If you have Roku, Chromecast, or Amazon Fire TV you can also watch it right on the big screen.
Sling TV (review) only costs $20 per month and even has a 7-day free trial, which would be a great way to watch the Spelling Bee streaming free! For that $20, you get access to over 20 cable channels live streaming. Channels include TBS, TNT, AMC, A&E, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3. You can watch ESPN3, which will be broadcasting a round of the Spelling Bee streaming, by logging in to WatchESPN with your Sling TV credentials. The ESPN networks will be your way to stream the Spelling Bee in its entirety and you can check out the schedule at the bottom of our guide for information on which channel to tune in to.
Now, $20 per month is pretty cheap, but it is even less expensive if you are a T-Mobile customer who now gets 30% off the subscription. It works out to $14 per month and you also get the benefit of not impacting your data if you choose to mobile stream Sling TV with the Binge On feature from T-Mobile. You can learn more about the deal and start a week long free trial here.
Not everyone is a T-Mobile subscriber, but anyone can benefit from Sling TV’s other offer. When you sing up for three months of Sling TV you can get a Roku player for absolutely free. This is one of the best deals out there for cable cutters in my opinion, since the $60 cost for Sling TV is actually cheaper than the Roku players. No matter how you cut it you are getting a great deal.
Watch the Spelling Bee Online with PlayStation Vue
Sony’s PlayStation Vue also offers ESPN and ESPN2 in its entry-level plan, which means it is another option to watch a Spelling Bee live stream. There are some differences between PlayStation Vue and Sling TV, but it is still a solid option. PlayStation Vue costs $29.99 per month in most parts of the country and you get over 55 cable channels to live stream. Channels include ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, TNT, TBS, Comedy Central, CNBC, and many more.
You can enjoy Spelling Bee streaming on your PS3 or PS4, iOS devices, or with Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV. There may be some limitations if you try to stream the Spelling Bee away from your house as some channels restrict streaming to only be over your house’s internet connection. Learn more about how to stream the Spelling Bee on PlayStation Vue in our detailed review of the service.
In select cities, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City, you pay slightly more but get access to local networks like ABC, NBC, and FOX live streaming. In other cities, these channels are often available on-demand with the content normally showing up within 24 hours. Overall, PlayStation Vue is a solid option to watch the Spelling Bee live stream, especially if you prefer having more live streaming channels from your cable alternative.
