With the start of college basketball season rapidly approaching, fans are excited to cheer their team on through the season. Up until recently, cable TV was really the only way to watch college basketball online, but thankfully that is no longer the case. With the price of cable skyrocketing, fans are happy to have more choices when it comes to following their favorite teams.

It is now possible to watch college basketball online, without needing a cable TV subscription. Because of broadcasting agreements, the online options for each conference vary. For fans of Big 10 schools (including Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, and more), we’ve put together this guide. Below, you’ll learn all about the legal methods and services you can use to watch Big 10 basketball online.

One of the best ways to watch Big 10 basketball online is to use Sling TV.

ESPN has an agreement with the Big 10 conference. For the next few seasons, ESPN owns the rights to broadcast most Big 10 games. Until recently, there was no way to watch ESPN without cable, but thankfully, you can now watch ESPN online, using a new streaming service known as Sling TV.

Sling TV is an online streaming service from Dish Network. You do not need cable to enjoy content from this service – only a compatible device and an internet connection. Here’s what you’ll get with Sling TV:

With Sling TV (review), you’ll enjoy all that, all for just $20 per month. Sling TV is really all you need to watch Big 10 basketball online, and it’s my #1 recommendation for most people.

You can use Sling TV from anywhere with an internet connection, on many different devices. You can watch on your mobile devices, streaming players, and computers. Watch Big 10 Basketball Games Online for Free Using the WatchESPN App

watchESPN app

ESPN offers a useful app for mobile devices, streaming players, and Xbox gaming consoles known as WatchESPN. With this app, you can watch select Big 10 basketball games online, plus tons of other live sports content, including live access to ESPN3 content.

Some ISPs provide their customers with free access to this app, while others don’t. You can check here to see if your cable or internet provider gives you access to WatchESPN. If they don’t, you can also use your Sling TV login to access the app.

For watching Big 10 basketball online, the WatchESPN app is a decent option. If you’re getting free access through your ISP, you’ll only be able to see the games that are on ESPN3. If you’re using a pay TV login, like Sling TV, you’ll get ESPN3, plus whichever ESPN channels you have in your TV package.

Watch Big 10 Basketball Games for Free Using Your Antenna

The majority of Big 10 conference basketball games will air on the ESPN family of networks. However, CBS will broadcast some games, particularly during March Madness. Luckily, CBS is an over-the-air channel, which means you can watch it for free!

Using an HD antenna, you can pick up CBS broadcasts for free, letting you watch Big 10 basketball for free. If you have an antenna, you’re good to go – just check the schedule and tune in at the appropriate time. If you don’t, check out the Mohu Leaf 50. It’s an indoor antenna, so it’s very easy to install, and it works great.

By using an antenna and a quality DVR device together, you can have much more flexibility when it comes to watching. If you record the games using your DVR, you can watch them at your convenience. If you have the Tablo HD DVR, you can even stream your recordings (and even live TV) to other devices, letting you watch games on your smartphone while you’re out and about.
