After a surprising run to the World Series in 2015, fans of the New York Mets could not be more excited for the 2016 season as the team heads into the playoffs. Since the Mets have one of the best young starting pitching rotations in the history of the MLB, every game is guaranteed to be a must-watch event. Want to watch the New York Mets online? We’ve got you covered!
If you feared you would miss your beloved Mets play on a regular basis because you refuse to pay for a cable contract, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. The following guide will tell you everything you exactly how to watch the Mets online.
Watch The New York Mets Online with Sling TV
Sling TV’s Orange package is only $20 a month, and it will allow you to watch New York Mets live stream on ESPN and TBS throughout the 2016 MLB season. ESPN is scheduled to broadcast approximately 90 regular season games this year. TBS may only carry a total of 13 regular season games, but they will be airing half of the playoff games this season. Sling TV also carries FS1 in its Blue package a well as FOX (limited markets), which are both home to many playoff games.
Sling TV works over the internet, so no cable subscription is required. You can use it on your TV via a streaming device, on your mobile phone/tablet, or on your computer. It’s very easy to use, quite affordable, and does not require a long-term contract. See our Sling TV review for additional information.
T-Mobile users can currently save 30 percent on the basic Sling TV package to bring it down to $14. More on this special T-Mobile deal can be found here. Other new users use a free trial for seven days or get a discounted Roku box by signing up for three months of service. Or, if you get the older Roku 2, which is still solid, you can get the box for free. The Roku will let you watch the New York Mets online directly on your TV, plus enjoy the rest of the great content Sling TV has to offer – all on your big-screen!
Catch a Mets Live Stream with PlayStation Vue
The same MLB games available on ESPN and TBS can also be accessed with a subscription to PlayStation Vue. New York is one of the cities that gets local channels using Vue, so Mets fans get an extra benefit out of the service for their $39.99 monthly fee. The biggest problems with this service are the higher price point than Sling TV, lack of Apple TV support, and mobile streaming restrictions that can make it hard to watch the Mets online outside of your home on the go. Learn more about the restrictions of PS Vue in our review. However, it is a great service if you want high-quality broadcasts, and you can sign-up here if you are interested. Also, keep in mind that while devices are limited now, Vue is rapidly expanding so in the near future it may become a real competitor to Sling TV.
Watch The Mets Online with MLB.TV
Major League Baseball provides a great service to their fans, known as MLB.TV. This service allows fans to watch live streams of nearly every game for a small annual fee of $110, but there are some restrictions. The MLB only lets fans enjoy out of market games on MLB.TV. This means only Mets fans living outside of the New York area are allowed to watch Mets live streams on their tablet, smartphone or computer using MLB.TV. This is easily the best option for non-local Mets fans, but New Yorkers will need to look into one of the other options on this guide. Please note: while local games are blacked out from live viewing, they can still be watched on-demand starting a few hours after the live broadcast. Find full details on this service in the MLB.TV review.
Watch New York Mets Live Stream for FREE With an Antenna
Throughout the season, select Mets games will air on FOX, which happens to be an over-the-air channel. What that means is that you can actually watch these games for free, if you have an antenna. We always recommend a high quality antenna like the Mohu Leaf 50. This will let you watch Mets live stream completely free, when games come on FOX.
For added convenience, use a DVR, like the Tablo HD. This will let you record games so that you can watch them on your own schedule, and even skip over commercials! Also, the Tablo will let you stream to connected devices, meaning you could potentially use your recordings to watch the New York Mets online via a smartphone, even when you’re not at home!
