what is sling tv

For recent cord-cutters who want to watch the Miami Heat game live, there are a few “essential” services that should always be first on your shopping list. Sling TV is one of these services that we consider a first step in replacing cable.

Sling TV is perfect for people who have recently cancelled cable, because it actually offers a lot of the same great content that you enjoy on cable networks. In fact, it offers access to many actual cable TV networks – without the cable subscription!

Here are all the details:

  • Sling TV is a streaming service that works on a variety of devices. You can watch it at home on your computer, on-the-go on your smartphone or tablet, and from the comfort of your couch with a streaming device like a Roku or Chromecast.
  • Don’t have a streaming player? Sling TV will give you a free Roku 2 or 50% off a Roku 3 player when you sign up for 3 months of service.
  • Sling TV offers its subscribers online access to many popular TV channels. Enjoy live programming from ESPN, ESPN 2, A&E, TBS, Disney Channel, Food Network, TNT, and more!
  • Sling TV costs just $20 per month. Better yet, it’s no contract, so there is no need to commit to more than 1 month at a time. Cancel whenever you want – no penalty!
  • Are you a T-Mobile customer? You can get a 30% discount on the Best of Live TV package with all of the channels mentioned above. That’s only $14/month! Sign up today with your T-Mobile account and enjoy this discount offer for the next 12 months. Cancel at anytime and watch wherever you’d like.

Sling TV provides access to lots of great channels, providing something to watch for the whole family. But we are here to talk about basketball… so what does Sling TV offer, in terms of NBA coverage?

Sling TV includes channels ESPN and TNT in their subscription package. This means that you can watch ESPN online and watch TNT online totally live – including tons of NBA games! ESPN hosts NBA games every week on Wednesdays and Fridays, while TNT hosts on Thursdays and some Tuesdays. You can also get FOX Sports Sun if you live in the region in Sling’s Blue package, giving you tons of Heat games.

Also, you can use the WatchESPN app to watch NBA games hosted by ABC, using your Sling TV login credentials.

Overall, Sling TV provides a good way to watch the Miami Heat online, and it’s the best way to watch the NBA playoffs online. And remember, in addition to all the great NBA coverage, you’ll enjoy a lot of other quality programming from many of the channels you love.

If you’re still on the fence, you can try Sling TV for free for 7 days to get a feel for the service yourself, without spending a dime!

Watch Miami Heat Live Stream and Replays with NBA League Pass

nba league pass

NBA League Pass is the only streaming service that comes from the NBA itself. As you could imagine, this means that it offers more NBA streaming content than any other service. It’s also a bit on the expensive side, but it’s still cheaper than cable!

There are 2 different versions of this service:

NBA League Pass lets you follow all your favorite teams throughout the season, with both live streaming and on-demand replays. It costs $199.99 per season. Local blackouts apply.

NBA Team Pass lets you follow your favorite team throughout the season, offering both live and on-demand streaming. It costs $119.99 per season. Local blackouts apply so beware if you want to watch every Miami Heat game live but live in the team’s market.

Here’s how it all works:

    • You can use NBA League Pass/Team Pass on your computer, mobile device, or streaming player
    • Enjoy live streaming of all regular season games (for all teams/one single team, depending on your package)
    • Enjoy on-demand replays of all regular season games (for all teams/one single team, depending on your package)
    • Enjoy a large library of classic NBA games available for streaming (both versions)

  • Both versions include local blackouts.

About blackouts – this is an important thing to note. Every team within your local broadcasting area will be blacked out from live streaming using League Pass. So, if you live in the Miami area, you cannot watch live coverage of the Miami Heat using this service – but you can still catch replays on-demand.

Also, new this season, the NBA is selling an NBA Single Game Pass, which, as the name suggests, gives you live access to a single game. It costs $6.99, which is a pretty good deal if you only want to watch a few games throughout the season.

Watch a Miami Heat Live Stream for FREE Using Your Antenna

If you have an HD antenna, did you know that you can watch NBA games for free? No cable required – no subscription at all required! All you need is a good HD antenna (like the Mohu Leaf 50 indoor antenna), and you’re good to go!

A good HD antenna will let you pick up over-the-air channels. And, since ABC is an OTA channel, that means you can watch ABC programming over the air, for free. In the 2015-2016 season, ABC will host 16 NBA games in total, including one Miami Heat game.

If your schedule doesn’t allow you to watch these games live, another good option is to record them so you can watch them later. You’ll need a good DVR, like the Tablo HD DVR, and you’ll be able to record the game while it’s on live, then watch it whenever you can. With the Tablo, you can even stream that recording on other devices, giving you a handy way to watch while you’re away from home. Our DVR comparison guide compares several different models to help you choose the DVR that’s right for you.

Watch Miami Heat Live Streams on TNT with Playstation Vue

Vue for Rockets live stream

Another TV-alternative service that is interesting for basketball fans is Playstation Vue. Vue is Sony’s new online streaming service. Right now, it’s limited to select cities (San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, and Chicago) but Sony has plans to expand it rapidly.

Playstation Vue is a streaming service that provides access to popular TV channels. With packages starting at $49.99 per month, it’s cheaper than cable but not by much. The basic package does include TNT, which provides a decent way to watch NBA games online, as TNT hosts games every week. This season, there will be 2 Miami Heat games on TNT, which you can watch using Playstation Vue. Of course, you can also watch these games, plus all the games hosted by ESPN, by using Sling TV – a much better (and cheaper) option at this point.

Watch a Miami Heat Live Stream for Free using TNT Overtime

We have already learned about how TNT hosts NBA games each week, and how you can watch those games using Sling TV or Playstation Vue. However, what a lot of people don’t realize is that TNT hosts some of these games online, via their free service TNT Overtime.

You can use TNT Overtime on your smartphone or tablet, and watch live coverage of several games throughout the season. There is one Miami Heat game scheduled for TNT Overtime this season – on Thursday, December 3 vs. Oklahoma City. Plus, you can use this service to keep up with some of your other favorite teams – all for free!

Watch the Miami Heat Online with No Blackouts using NBA League Pass International

Do you want to watch live streaming of every NBA regular season game, from every NBA team in the league? Do you live outside of the United States? If you answered yes to both of these questions, NBA League Pass International may be the service for you.

The International version of this popular service is very similar to the domestic version that we described in detail earlier in the guide, except for this version does not blackout any teams. It’s a great service for NBA fans living abroad. Click your country for more info: Ireland, UK, or Australia. It’s a great way to watch the Miami Heat game live abroad.
