what is sling tv

If you’re new to the world of cord cutting, i.e. if you’ve recently cancelled your cable TV subscription, there are a few services that are highly recommended, no matter what your interests. Two of these services are Netflix, and Sling TV. Netflix provides tons of on-demand streaming content, while Sling TV covers your live TV fix.

Sling TV is the best online streaming service when it comes to live coverage. Unlike most competitors, all of Sling TV’s content is live. Basically, a subscription to Sling is a lot like a basic cable subscription, because it gives you access to many of the same channels for live viewing. The difference is that Sling TV works over the internet, so you can use it on mobile devices, computers, and streaming players alike. Oh yeah, and it’s much, much cheaper than cable!

For just $20 per month, you can subscribe to Sling TV and enjoy live coverage from many of your favorite TV channels, including ESPN, TNT, Disney Channel, Food Network, TBS, Adult Swim, A&E, and more.

For basketball fans, the most notable channels are ESPN and TNT, which cover live NBA games every week. ESPN hosts on Wednesdays and Fridays, playoff games and the NBA Draft live, while TNT hosts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the 2015-2016 season, ESPN will host 8 Pelicans games and TNT will have 4 Pelicans games scheduled, making Sling TV a pretty good options to watch the New Orleans Pelicans online. Plus TNT carries the NBA All Star Game. You can also use your Sling TV subscription to watch ABC-hosted NBA games via the WatchESPN App, but there are no Pelicans games on ABC this season.

The best way to enjoy Sling TV is on your TV, using a gaming console or streaming device. If you don’t have one, you should take advantage of one of the promotion being run right now: sign up for 3 months of Sling TV, and get a free Roku Streaming Stick or get a discount of 50% off a Roku 3! With a Roku and a Sling TV subscription, you’ll be all set to enjoy live NBA streaming and tons of other great content, from the comfort of your couch!

Sling TV costs $20 per month. You can also try Sling TV for free for 7 days with no commitment. And remember, Sling TV is no-contract, so you can cancel whenever you want.

Watch New Orleans Pelicans Live Streams and On-Demand Replays with NBA League Pass

nba league pass

NBA League Pass is the official streaming service of the NBA. If you haven’t heard of this service, you should really check it out! While it is a bit on the expensive side, it is definitely still cheaper than cable, and it offers a ton of great NBA content, both live and on-demand.

At $199.99 per season, NBA fans should expect a lot out of NBA League Pass – and honestly, the service delivers. There is a ton of content available. With a subscription, you’ll enjoy LIVE streaming of every regular season game, plus on-demand replays if you miss a game. Once the regular season ends and the playoffs begin, you’ll be able to watch replays of playoff games, but you won’t be able to watch live, unfortunately. Subscribers will also enjoy a large library of past NBA games, so you can relive classic moments in NBA history in stunning HD.

NBA League Pass works on your computer, your smartphone, tablet, or streaming device. It’s easy to setup, and just requires you to have decent internet to stream in HD. And now you can get one-step live game access through social media posts.

If $200/season is out of your price range, or if you really only care about how to watch the New Orleans Pelicans online, and don’t need to watch other teams play, you can get NBA Team Pass. Team Pass is similar to League Pass, except it only gives you access to games from a single team of your choosing. Quite a bit less content, but it’s $80 cheaper at $119.99 per season.

Also, new this season the NBA will be selling passes to individual games, called NBA Single Game Passes. These are handy if you don’t want to commit to anything but would like to catch a game or two every once in awhile.

*Important note*: NBA League Pass and Team Pass BLACK OUT local teams. This means New Orleans-area residents cannot watch Pelicans games live using Team Pass or League Pass, but they can still watch replays on-demand.

Watch NBA Games for FREE with Your Antenna

ABC hosts featured NBA games every week – 16 games in total this season. Although there are no Pelicans games scheduled on ABC for the upcoming season (see the NBA on ABC schedule), you can still watch some other teams play on ABC.

Here’s the interesting part: you can actually watch ABC for free, without a cable subscription. ABC operates as an over-the-air network, meaning they broadcast over the air, for free. You can pick up and watch ABC using a quality HD antenna. This provides an easy and free way to watch NBA games without cable.

For added convenience, you can use a good DVR to record and replay games later. That way, you don’t have to schedule your day around the broadcast times of NBA games, and can simply watch at your convenience. If you use an advanced DVR like the Tablo HD, you can even watch while on-the-go by streaming your Tablo recordings to a connected device (such as a smartphone). How’s that for convenient!

Watch New Orleans Pelicans Live Streams on TNT with Playstation Vue

Sony has recently released a new streaming service, called Playstation Vue. It’s actually quite similar to Sling TV, because it provides its subscribers with live access to popular TV networks.

Playstation Vue offers several different packages, with plans starting from $49.99 per month. All packages include TNT, which means you can watch the NBA games that are hosted on TNT every week, using PS Vue. That includes 4 Pelicans games this season.

Right now, Sony is still in the process of rolling this product out, so it’s only available in select cities. For now, only residents of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York City can sign up for Playstation Vue.

We see a lot of potential in this new service, but for now, Sling TV is a better option for watching the Pelicans online, and it’s also much cheaper.
