How to Watch Humans Online Without Cable

humans-amc

In my Sling TV Summer Preview, I noted that AMC’s new sci-fi series Humans could be the network’s next big hit, following in the footsteps of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and the smash-hit Walking Dead. The brand new series — set in a parallel present where families have their own highly-advanced robotic servant that’s creepily similar to its live counterpart — is a joint venture between AMC and British network Channel 4, where Humans is already a huge hit after it debuted two weeks ago over there to record-high ratings. Here in the states, Humans will make its series debut on Sunday, June 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Luckily, US sci-fi fans without cable won’t have to miss a single spooky moment as there are some simple legal ways to watch Humans online without an expensive cable contract.

Sling TV Offers an Easy Way to Watch Humans Online

Sling TV

If you want to watch Humans episodes but you don’t have cable, you’re in luck — Sling TV will let you watch every episode live as it airs and on-demand afterward. What is Sling TV? It’s a new live streaming service that lets subscribers watch a selection of popular cable channels on their TV (using a streaming device, like the Roku 3 or Roku Streaming Stick), phone, tablet, or PC using their internet connection. Sling TV’s basic “Best of Live TV” package is just $20 a month with no contract, and it gives you over 20 channels, including AMC which will air Humans. Additionally, you’ll get ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, HGTV, Food Network, CNN, and a number of other popular channels.

Because Sling TV is a live streaming service, you’ll be able to watch Humans  online live every Sunday night when it airs on AMC. If you aren’t able to catch it live, you can still watch Humans episodes on demand as Sling TV offers an on-demand library for this and other channels. Typically, episodes are available on demand just after they air, but sometimes they may not be posted until the next morning.

Special Sling TV Deals Available Now

Right now, Sling TV is offering a free 7-day trial, which is a great way to test out their service. That gives you an opportunity to sign up, watch a Humans live stream on Sunday, and spend the rest of the week exploring Sling TV’s excellent streaming service. But remember, this is just a 7-day trial, so that won’t last long enough for you to watch Humans online all season long.

That’s why I personally recommend taking advantage of the limited-time offer Sling TV is currently running. Right now, you can get a free Roku Streaming Stick or take 50% off a Roku 3 Streaming Media Player when you sign up for three months of service with Sling TV. Either of these devices will allow you to stream Sling TV and  over 2,000 other streaming channels (such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu) to your TV, so you can watch Humans episodes on your big screen and get the full experience all season long.

PlayStation Vue Offers Another Way to Stream Humans

Sony’s PlayStation Vue gives you one more legal way to watch Humans live without cable. Similar to Sling TV, Vue gives subscribers the ability to stream a collection of popular pay-TV channels. However, there are some differences between Sling and Vue. To get Vue, you must have a PS3 or PS4 gaming system, and you have to live in one of the following cities — Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Perhaps the bigger issue is the cost. PlayStation Vue is significantly more costly than Sling TV. The basic package is $49.99 a month, and other packages are even more expensive.

Are There Other Legal Ways to Watch Humans Online?

While Sling TV is easily the best way to watch Humans online, there are some other options to watch the show if you don’t have cable, although they each have their drawbacks. Neither will let you watch a Humans live stream, and they force you to pay per episode which can add up if you’re watching a whole season and want to also watch other shows.

  • Amazon Instant Video–Usually, episodes of AMC shows are available for purchase on Amazon Instant Video the day after airing on TV. In most cases, you can expect to pay $1.99 and up for each episode.
  • iTunes–Like Amazon Instant Video, iTunes also makes episodes of AMC shows available for download the following day. Pricing is usually $2.99 and up per episode.

It’s also worth noting that AMC will usually make the season premiere episodes of its original shows available on its website for free to give fans a sample of the show. However, if they do this with Humans it will still only be the first episode that you can get for free, so you’d still need to get Sling TV or buy each episode from Amazon or iTunes if you want to follow the whole season.
