Got rid of cable and wondering how to watch CNN online? You aren’t alone, and thankfully, there are now ways to get a CNN live stream legally without cable. For example, in the US, you can use a DIRECTV NOW free trial to watch on most any device. There are some other options outside the US too.

For people who want to stay current on world events, a well-rounded daily news diet likely contains CNN live TV.  The 24-hour news network has been a leader in world news for decades, often providing the best coverage of the stories that matter most. In recent years, CNN has grown to become more than just a news network, however. With popular programs like Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Mike Rowe: Somebody’s Gotta Do It, CNN has evolved into a network that has something for everyone. If you’re looking to watch CNN live, but are unsure how, this is the guide for you.

Of course, CNN is a pay TV channel, and watching the worldwide news leader has always required an expensive cable or satellite contract…until now. Thanks to new streaming services, there are finally some legal ways to watch a CNN live stream without cable TV. No sketchy streams. No pop up ads.

Check out the complete guide below for all the info you need on how to watch CNN online, including how to enjoy CNN on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and a ton of other popular devices.

Sling TV Offers a Legal CNN Live Stream

Sling TV is a streaming service that lets you use your internet connection to watch TV programs on your computer, mobile device, or TV (via a streaming device like the Roku, Apple TV, etc). So, if you’re looking to watch CNN on Roku and other top streaming players, Sling TV is a great choice.

There is one major difference between Sling TV and other popular streaming services, however — Sling offers live streams of popular cable channels, not just on-demand content. Most notably, it was the first service to offer a legal CNN live stream. And it’s the cheapest of all the options for how to watch CNN online. Check out our Sling TV review for more info.

In fact, with Sling TV, you can stream CNN free for a week with the free 7-day trial.

Watch CNN Without Cable via PlayStation Vue

Playstation Vue

PlayStation Vue is another popular live streaming service that functions over the internet. It has plans starting from $30 a month, and it does not require a contract to sign up. It also works on most devices, including streaming players, smartphones, tablets and PlayStation consoles. Check out our PlayStation Vue review to learn more.

CNN streaming is included in all of Vue’s packages, which offer 45+ channels. You can actually stream CNN free for a while thanks to Vue’s free 5-day trial.

Which CNN Shows Can You Watch Online?

Sling News Home

The short answer is: everything! The services described above let you access CNN online streaming in its entirety. You get to watch CNN live TV just like you would with cable, only at a fraction of the price. That means you can watch CNN online and enjoy all of their best shows, like The Lead with Jake Tapper, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper 360, and Race to the White House.

With these services, you watch CNN online from your TV, phone, tablet or compute. The services are offered for a fraction of what cable costs, and there are no contracts to sign. DIRECTV NOW even offers a free 7-day trial!

Can You Watch CNN Online Free?

If you’re looking for free CNN streaming, there aren’t many legal options. CNN posts some videos on its website, but these are typically only one or two-minute clips and you certainly won’t get a CNN live stream. For big events, sometimes CNN will offer a free live stream of the day’s coverage.

If you’re looking for a quick news fix and want to watch CNN live for free, your best option is to sign up for a free 7-day trial of Sling TV or a free 7-day trial of DIRECTV NOW. It only takes a few minutes to sign up and start watching, and this will allow you to watch CNN online free for one full week. If you enjoy it, you can continue your service on a month-to-month basis for as long as you wish.

  1. Do you mean with Airplay and Apple TV?
Sling TV is coming the Chromecast here within the next couple weeks (see the announcement here https://www.cutcabletoday.com/sling-tv-chromecast/).

  2. Sling tv doesn’t support chromecast for cnn yet. Said they are working on it. You can’t live stream history channels or tbs yet either.

My problem with it is you can only view on one device at a time. Fatal flaw for me.
