National Geographic has been a household name since the inception of the magazine in 1888. Originally evoking thoughts of exotic safaris, it was quickly apparent that the journal aimed to provide the best information about our world, the cultures, the animals, and the threads that hold us all together. It was no surprise, then, that the advent of cable television would also usher in a new era for the National Geographic society. The National Geographic Channel didn’t join the entertainment scene until 1997. Nowadays, it’s possible to watch Nat Geo online – and we’ll show you how!
Like with many cable networks, National Geographic Channel has become a platform for a variety of reality television programs including:
- Brain Games
- Science of Stupid
- Life Below Zero
The network is also the current home of National Geographic Explorer, a series that has been on the air since 1985. If you’re a fan of the National Geographic Channel’s programming, you may be wary of ditching cable. But you don’t have to worry. Here are several ways you can still watch the National Geographic Channel live stream at home without needing cable.
Watch the National Geographic Live Stream on DIRECTV NOW
Cutting the cord doesn’t mean having to miss your favorite shows. Thanks to streaming, services like DIRECTV NOW allow you to get the channels you might have otherwise missed, for a low monthly fee. You can choose between multiple packages that include a wide variety of channels. Packages start at $35 a month. You can get channels like AMC, ESPN, Nat Geo and Nat Geo Wild, TBS, and TNT. $35 a month is on the higher end of streaming services, but on the plus side, they do not enforce any mobile restrictions. This means that unlike some services that tie you to your location, DIRECTV NOW allows you to watch from anywhere. You can watch on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and many other devices.
Watch the National Geographic Live Stream with Sling TV
One of our favorite cable replacement options is Sling TV. There is so much to like from the extensive list of pay TV channel access to the sheer number of devices that will work with the system. It really can’t be beat. Sling TV (review) offers fans an option to watch Nat Geo online live for an affordable price. Not only do you get the National Geographic live stream, but you also get access to a rotating selection of on-demand episodes, which are subject to provider availability.
And while you’re there, you can watch some of your other favorite shows live, including Vikings on History and Better Call Saul on AMC. However, it is important to note that your subscription is tied to your home network. You’re not able to watch content away from home. Even the iOS app has mobile restrictions.
