Premier League fans, you’re in luck because it’s about to get a lot easier to stream games. NBC has announced the launch of a new streaming service that’s dedicated to all things EPL: live matches, studio shows, highlights, original content, and more.
This isn’t the first time EPL matches have been available for streaming in the US (NBC has been streaming the games online as part of a service for current subscribers) but it will be the first time these matches are available for streaming without a cable subscription.
According to reports, the service will have a price tag of just under $50, and will have more than 130 games live. The host will be NBC Sports Gold, a platform that already airs, rugby, cycling, and track
This decision really shouldn’t come as a shock, since there’s been a clear move away from traditional cable television subscriptions for some time now. And when NBC signed a deal with the ELP back in 2015, many people expected something like this was in the works.
In fact, NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus said that was exactly their plan. “Whether it’s digital, whether it’s television, whether it’s a pay-for situation, or whether it’s free over the air, we will have the ability, he said, “as long as we work within certain parameters that we have committed to – we will work on our programming plan each year with the Premier League.” They paid for the rights, he noted, to make money. “And as media evolves, we will be in a position to evolve with it, and that’s what this complete set of rights allows us.”
In addition to live matches, NBC’s ELP streaming service will have replays of most matches on the service, plus studio shows, highlight clips, and other original content centered around Premier League soccer.
