Well, it finally happened—evidence that DIRECTV NOW will soon release its fabled cloud DVR appeared in users’ inboxes just hours ago.
DIRECTV NOW subscribers received a cryptic invoice email that made mention of a “True Cloud DVR” with a $0.00 charge. While the service itself hasn’t been updated on the site yet, this is a sign that DIRECTV NOW’s DVR plans are rolling ahead as promised.
There’s no indication of what separates DIRECTV NOW’s True Cloud DVR from the competition, but we do know that beta testers say the cloud DVR can store up to 100 hours of content. Considering DIRECTV NOW’s cloud DVR appeared on customer invoices, it’s safe to assume subscribers will have the option to pay for increased DVR storage. Just how much cloud DVR storage users will get for free is still a mystery, but surely new information will be announced soon.
Every other major live streaming service offers some form of cloud DVR, and it’s about time DIRECTV NOW followed suit. While there’s still no official announcement indicating how long users have to wait for the True Cloud DVR’s official release, we’re betting on it being sooner rather than later considering the emailed hints.
