Looks like Roku and Apple users will have to wait a little longer to get YouTube TV. According to a report by CNET, YouTube TV representatives are now estimating the service’s app won’t be made available for these devices until sometime during early 2018.
As we reported in October, YouTube TV was originally planning on rolling out compatible Roku and Apple TV apps for its service “within the coming weeks,” which many interpreted would be before the end of the year. But it looks like that is no longer the plan.
This timeline change will likely throw a wrench in the works for holiday shoppers who’ve bought Apple TVs and Roku devices under the assumption that they would be able to watch YouTube TV on them soon. Fortunately, Apple TVs and Roku devices are compatible with a hefty number of other services, so you won’t be left completely out in the cold.
In the meantime, YouTube TV is compatible on all the following devices, with compatibility for older Samsung and Sony smart TVs on its way:
TVs and Video Players:
- Android TV
- LG 2016 and 2017 smart TVs
- Samsung 2016 and 2017 smart TVs
Phones and Tablets:
- Android phones
- Android tablets
- Xbox One
- Xbox One S
- Xbox One X
