Boston area Sling TV subscribers woke up to a little something extra in their channel listings this week: their local NBC affiliate, WBTS, live.
Sling announced the deal this week, which brings the Boston area NBC affiliate to every area customer in that market. Now, viewers can get their Boston news, weather, and traffic live, along with shows like The Today Show and Rachael Ray in the morning, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sunday Night Football, and more. NBC Boston will be replacing the NBC on demand channel on Sling in the actual lineup, but customers will still be able to watch on demand content from popular shows like Blacklist and This is Us.
Sling Blue customers who can now get WBTS live don’t need to update or anything – the channel will appear automatically in their lineup. Live near Boston and not sure if you should be getting it? Head over to the Sling TV Help Center, enter your ZIP code, and click “Show My Available Channels.”
While just adding WBTS alone probably isn’t enough to make someone sign up for Sling, live local networks are quickly becoming a battleground for streaming services. And as streaming services add more local networks, the decision to cut cable and their bloated bill becomes a little more easy.
With Boston’s local NBC affiliate hitting Sling, it joins other markets like New York, LA, Dallas, Philly, Chicago, San Francisco, LA, Philadelphia, Miami, DC, Hartford, and San Diego. Around 30 other local markets have their NBC affiliate available on demand with Sling.
And now that Sling has NBC Boston, the next big target that subscribers will be looking for is CSN New England. Sling added several other CSN Networks earlier this year, and many people expect Boston to be coming, but nothing has been announced yet.
