Sling TV recently added a new feature called Sling Central to its platform. As the company explained it, Sling Central provides free access to the premieres of new HBO and Showtime shows, and it includes additional information on operating cloud DVR and on-demand services.
No doubt Sling TV hopes users who watch the pilot episodes of new HBO and Showtime shows will be tempted to purchase the package add-ons to continue watching those shows. So, users beware—if you don’t want to add to your streaming bill every month, you may want to avoid watching the premieres of these new shows, free or not.
In addition to the premiere episodes, Sling Central is supposed to double as a resource for users who want to learn more about what’s included in their subscription. For example, users who aren’t well-versed in cloud DVR functions can learn how to use the service to record and watch their favorite shows at their convenience. Additionally, users can learn how to use the on-demand service to watch recent episodes of popular shows. Educating users on how to take full advantage of Sling TV services may lead to better retention rates.
