PlayStation Vue Eliminates ‘Slim’ Bundle, Raises Prices

playstation vue review

PlayStation Vue‘s skinny bundles are getting a little more skinny. The streaming television announced today that they were eliminating their Access Slim bundle and bringing a price increase to their other offerings.

The Access Slim package, which had about 55 channels, was only offered in markets that didn’t have live local channels, which means it was about $10 less than any other package. Users who are on the Access Slim lineup now will have three more billing cycles at their current price before the changes take place. New users will already pay the increase.

The cheapest package now is the Access, which costs about $40 and had all of the Slim channels, plus live local networks. This means from this point out, users will pay $10 extra, even if they don’t have local broadcasts.

Here’s a look at how the price increases look across the board:

  • Access: $39.99/mo
  • Core: $44.99/mo
  • Elite: $54.99/mo
  • Ultra: $74.99/mo

Naturally, a lot of subscribers weren’t too happy with the increase, especially those that were getting fewer channels and paying more. But a move like this is fairly standard for the industry: offer a service at a discount, and when there are enough subscribers to warrant, take away the discount.

Despite the increase though, this brings Vue’s prices right in line with that their competitors charge, so it’s likely that this won’t cause too many people to jump ship.

In a statement on their web site, Vue noted that this was their plan all along. “The transition to standard pricing for all markets was always part of our roadmap since we launched PlayStation Vue nationwide and began rolling out local broadcast affiliates in markets with Slim plans.” The announcement continued, “We look forward to continuing the momentum for PlayStation Vue, which delivers a better TV experience with best-in-class features and no long-term contracts.”
