If you no longer have cable TV, or you’re simply looking for more great comedy content, check out our Seeso review below to learn more about the service.
Seeso Review: What is Seeso?
Seeso is not in the business of having everything, nor do they pretend to be. Instead, the aim to be the best at what they do. And what they do is comedy. By focusing on a single genre of entertainment, Seeso is hoping to capture both casual comedy fans and humor enthusiasts with their unique approach to content. But, as with any streaming service, it all boils down to the quality of that content, and the price of admission.
What Content Does Seeso Offer?
Seeso is in partnership with NBC Universal, so a large chunk of their library is made up of NBC properties including the entire runs of well loved shows like Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock. These are some of the key Seeso shows, but there’s a lot more than just NBC content. In addition to some of the classic NBC comedies of days gone by, Seeso boasts something truly impressive, every single episode of Saturday Night Live from the show’s entire 40+ year run.. Every. Single. Episode.
Also of note is the wide selection of British shows that simply aren’t as well known stateside including classics like Monty Python’s Flying Circus and the bizarre cult show Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. As if that wasn’t enough, Seeso also has its sights set on delivering exclusive content to its subscribers.
The company maintains that 20+ original Seeso shows are actively being developed, however a the time of this writing, there are only five original shows available to stream. These shows include a Drunk History-esque show that gets comedians to tell personal stories about themselves while inebriated and a delightfully quirky sitcom about a regular guy who lives with a Muppets-style puppet named Randy who drinks, smokes and engages in tax evasion. Seeso also proclaims to invest heavily on exclusive stand up comedy performances.
How Much Does Seeso Cost?
Seeso is available as a standalone service, and the Seeso cost is only $3.99 a month. For less than the price of a mocha, you can get a full month of high quality comedy entertainment.
Whether you subscribe to the service via the official website or get it through Amazon Prime, the cost is the same.
Which Devices is Seeso Compatible With?
Currently Seeso devices include Roku TVs and players, Amazon Fire TVs and Sticks and through Amazon Prime. Watching Seeso on Roku is probably your best option, as it allows you to watch on your big-screen. Seeso’s website claims that it will be available on all devices in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on Seeso devices and compatibility.
How Can You Get Seeso?
In addition to being subscribed to on its own, Seeso can be integrated into your Amazon Prime account for $3.99 per month, including a 30-day free trial to test the waters before taking the plunge. If you’re not completely sold already, Seeso is offering two months free of charge when new customers subscribe to one month at $3.99. This offer is valid until June 1.
If you don’t have Amazon Prime, which offers tons of HD content and offers extras like music streaming and 2-day shipping, you can find out more about it here. You can even try Amazon Prime free for 30-days.
Is There a Seeso Free Trial?
Currently there is no word on whether or not the service itself will offer a free trial, but there’s still good news: you can score a Seeso free trial through Amazon Prime. You can sign up today and enjoy a full month of the service for free!
In an interview with Indiewire, Evan Shapiro, the man spearheading Seeso, proclaims that Seeso is the “corner cafe to everyone else’s Costco”, where everyone else is the likes of Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. He’s right in that assumption. By offering a specific product, Seeso is targeting a specific customer. The bigger streaming services try to cater to all tastes, and in doing so they ultimately miss out on more niche programming. And for lovers of comedy, Seeso is an attractive option, especially when you factor in its price of $3.99/month.
In its current state, Seeso is light on exclusive and original content, but it has a solid growth plan in place. Its hard not to recommend at its price point, but if you’re a comedy buff, its a no brainer. We hope this Seeso review has helped you make a decision about the service, and we encourage you to try it out for yourself!
