There are no guarantees when it comes to NBA basketball, but the San Antonio Spurs are as close as it comes to guaranteed success. For years, the Spurs have exceeded expectations and played a beautiful style of basketball. It’s just what they do. And with Gregg Popovich and the gang back for the 2017–2018 season, make no mistake—Spurs are contenders for the title. So let’s talk about how you can stream every beautiful moment of the Spurs online this season.

To livestream the Spurs online, we’re going to need access to four channels: ESPN, NBATV, TNT, and FOX Sports Southwest.

Let’s talk about the best streaming packages that include these essential channels.

#1 PlayStation Vue: Amazing Picture Quality + Cloud DVR

Playstation Vue(Core Package)

Price:
$44.99/mo
Contract:
None

Why we like Playstation Vue:

  • Amazing streaming quality
  • Cheaper than most

What We Like about It: The NBA has never streamed better

Drawbacks: Can’t stream on Xbox

Who It’s Perfect For: Fans with an eye for streaming quality

If you’re the type of fan who wants the best overall experience, PlayStation Vue is your ticket to  stream the Spurs. You can even watch the Spurs for free with a 5-day PlayStation Vue trial.

Pricing and Plans for PlayStation Vue

We want the cheapest package that includes ESPN, TNT, NBATV, and FOX Sports Southwest—which is the Core package for $44.99 a month. Along with those essential channels for Spurs streaming, the Core package gives you 70 other channels worth checking out. Take a look at the channel list and make sure your favorite channels are present.

While we’re on the subject of channels, a word of caution with FOX Sports Southwest. Some users have complained that they can’t stream FOX Sports Southwest, even though they are in the correct region. To be sure, sign up for a free trial and check that you get FOX Sports Southwest before committing to anything longer term.

Watching the Spurs with PlayStation Vue

You won’t find better picture quality or overall streaming stability than with PlayStation Vue. You can take our word for it—we’ve tested all the major streaming services. It’s not that the other streaming services aren’t decent, but we found PlayStation Vue to offer the most consistently vivid picture.

So if you recently bought yourself a new TV and want to see what that baby is capable of, definitely watch the Spurs with PlayStation Vue.

PlayStation Vue also comes built in with unlimited cloud DVR storage—though “unlimited” comes with a caveat. You can store your unlimited hours for only 28 days before they’re automatically deleted. Still, that should be plenty to record the games you can’t watch live. There’s something to be said for enjoying a game on your own schedule (and without commercials, too). Just make sure to avoid social media and spoiler-prone people who might tell you the score.

PlayStation Vue Device Compatibility

There’s a common misconception that you need a PlayStation to stream the Spurs with PlayStation Vue. Luckily, that’s incorrect. Here’s the complete list of compatible devices:

TV and Video Players:

  • Roku
  • Amazon Fire devices
  • Apple TV
  • Android TV
  • Chromecast

Phones and Tablets:

  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Android devices

Gaming Consoles:

  • PlayStation 3 and 4

Laptops and Computers:

  • Chrome
  • Windows 10
  • Macs running Lion 10.7 or higher

#2 Sling TV: Customize Your Channels

Sling TV(Orange + Blue + Sports Extra)

Price:
$45/mo.
Contract:
None

Why we like Sling TV:

  • Lots of add-on options

What We Like about It: Tons and tons of add-ons

Drawbacks: $5 extra a month for cloud DVR

Who It’s Perfect For: Fans with eclectic channel tastes

Sling TV hangs its hat on offering an à la carte streaming service. Although it has more options than the competition, Sling TV isn’t truly à la carte since you can’t pick and choose individual channels you want to pay for. Still, if you like options, Sling TV has plenty for you to choose from. You can stream the Spurs for free with a Sling TV 7-day trial.

Price and Plans for Sling TV

In order to get all the channels you need to stream the Spurs, you’ll want to get a couple of different packages. Sling TV divides its channels between two packages—Sling Orange and Sling Blue. To watch the San Antonio Spurs online, you’ll need both, plus the Sports Extra add-on.

So in summary—Sling Orange + Sling Blue, and the Sports Extra package will provide us with ESPN, TNT, NBATV, and FOX Sports Southwest.

Of course, those aren’t the only channels you’d be getting with Sling TV. Check out the channel list and see what you think of the other channels included. While you’re there, scroll down and look at the crazy amount of add-ons. No matter how obscure the channel may be, Sling TV most likely can hook you up.

Watching the Spurs with Sling TV

From what we’ve tested with Sling TV, we can confirm that the stream is generally solid, though on a few occasions the stream would look a little fuzzy. Fortunately, it always righted itself within a moment or two. We tested all the streaming services on the same internet connection, so we can confirm PlayStation Vue’s stream is better, but Sling TV comes in a close second.

Sadly, Sling TV doesn’t include cloud DVR built into your streaming package. If you want the ability to record live television, you will need to add another $5 a month to your bill. Still, $5 a month for 50 hours of cloud DVR isn’t too bad. Then again, you may love watching the Spurs live, so cloud DVR may not even matter to you. That would make Sling TV an easy first choice.

Sling TV Device Compatibility

Sling TV allows you to stream the Spurs on almost any device outside of PlayStation consoles. Check out the full list of compatible devices:

#3 DIRECTV NOW: So Many Channels, So Little Time

DIRECTV NOW(Go Big)

Price:
$60/mo.
Contract:
None

Why we like DIRECTV NOW:

  • Channels for the whole family

What We Like about It: Channels for the whole family

Drawbacks: A bit on the expensive side and no cloud DVR

Who It’s Perfect For: Fans sharing their subscription

At first glance, DIRECTV NOW seems too expensive to stream the San Antonio Spurs, but we’ll let you in on a little secret that can make it a much more viable option: simultaneous streams. Split your account and bill with a friend, and soon you have a much better deal on your hands.

As always, we recommend checking out the DIRECTV NOW trial first, and maybe watching the Spurs for free while it lasts.

Pricing and Plans for DIRECTV NOW

DIRECTV NOW’s Go Big package, for $60 a month, has all the channels we need to stream the San Antonio Spurs. In addition to including ESPN, NBATV, TNT, and FOX Sports Southwest, this package includes over 100 other channels. Check out the channel list and see what you think about your streaming options.

Like we mentioned above, splitting the cost of your subscription 50/50 with another person all of a sudden gives you 100 channels for $30 a month. Considering there’s so much channel variety, it shouldn’t be hard to find someone willing to split with you, either. Just some food for thought.

Watching the Spurs with DIRECTV NOW

From what we’ve tested, DIRECTV NOW’s streaming quality looks pretty great, especially if you keep your television on the same input while streaming.

However, things get a little weird when you switch inputs while streaming DIRECTV NOW. For example, if you’re watching the Spurs on DIRECTV NOW, and you switch inputs to play PlayStation during halftime, the stream will glitch out when you return to the game. Instead of continuing while you’re on a different input, the stream seems to pause, and when you turn back, it fast forwards until it’s caught up with real time.

We hope you enjoy watching the Spurs live because DIRECTV NOW doesn’t offer cloud DVR just yet. Plan on arranging your schedule around game time, or else you may miss a Kawhi Leonard triple-double.

DIRECTV NOW Compatibility

Most devices are compatible with DIRECTV NOW, except for video game consoles. Here’s a complete list of compatible devices for DIRECTV NOW:

TV and Video Players:

  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • Android TV
  • Roku

Phones and Tablets:

  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Android phones
  • Android tablets
  • Amazon Fire tablets

Gaming Consoles:

  • none

  • Chrome
  • Windows 10
  • Macs running Lion 10.7 or higher

#4 NBA League Pass: Almost Unlimited NBA

NBA League Pass(NBA League Pass)

Price:
$39.99/mo.
Contract:
None

Why we like NBA League Pass:

  • Able to watch the entire league

What We Like about It: Keep your favorite teams close and your enemies closer

Drawbacks: Blackouts for your local team

Who It’s Perfect For: Spurs fans who live outside San Antonio

We know that NBA League Pass sounds too good to be true, and unfortunately for many fans, it might be. If you live in the San Antonio area and want to use NBA League Pass to livestream the San Antonio Spurs—you’re out of luck.

Likewise, no matter where you live, games airing on national television will be blacked out as well. The San Antonio Spurs are one of the NBA’s premier teams, too, so you can bet they’ll be on national television plenty of times this season.

Pricing and Plans for NBA League Pass

There are three different packages you can choose from if you decide to go with NBA League Pass. The least expensive package, the NBA Team Pass ($17.99 a month, or $119.99 for the season), streams every non-blacked-out local game for one specific team–say, the Spurs.

If you’re the type of NBA junkie that needs to keep tabs on the rest of the league too, check out the NBA League Pass package ($28.99 a month, or $199.99 for the season).

If you want the best of the best, NBA League Pass Premium ($39.99 a month, or $249.99 a season) allows you to stream both the Spurs and rest of the league free of commercials. As every NBA fan knows, there are way too many commercials. In fact, you probably know the latest GEICO commercial by heart. With NBA League Pass Premium, your Spurs stream stays in the arena rather than breaking off to commercials.

Watching the Spurs on NBA League Pass

Assuming you don’t suffer from any blackouts, NBA League Pass offers an amazing viewing experience. You can easily switch between games, check scores, and even watch highlights. Plus, the streaming experience is highly customizeable.

When you’re setting up your account, you can set up notifications for specific teams, so you can get alerts when there’s a close game going into the fourth quarter. And before you start streaming a game, you can even select whether you want to view the home or away broadcast teams.

In terms of streaming quality, NBA League Pass looks great. We didn’t encounter any lags or glitches during our testing. Whether we were watching live or streaming a replay, the stream stayed consistently smooth.

Watch the Spurs Online with NBA League Pass International

With some of their best players coming from Argentina, Paris, and Spain, the Spurs have one of the biggest international fan bases.

If you’re one of those international fans, NBA League Pass works just like the US version, but without the pesky blackouts. You can livestream the Spurs whenever they’re playing. Check out the NBA League Pass homepage to learn more details.

NBA League Pass Device Compatibility

NBA League Pass makes streaming the Spurs super easy. It’s basically compatible with any device you can think of. Here’s a complete list:

TV and Video Players:

  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • Android TV
  • Roku
  • Samsung Smart TV

Phones and Tablets:

  • iPhone
  • iPad

  • Android tablets
  • Amazon Fire tablets

Video game consoles:

  • Xbox consoles
  • PlayStation consoles

Laptops and Computers:

  • Windows 10
  • Macs running Lion 10.7 or higher

#5 Use a VPN: Stream Spurs Games Online Outside the USA

VPN works as another option for international fans. Even for US fans, you may be able to circumnavigate blackouts with a VPN. You can learn more here about VPN services to stream the Spurs.
